How Does An Oral Sleep Appliance Work?

An oral appliance fits over your teeth like an Invisalign tray while you sleep and supports your jaw in a forward position to keep your airway open. A custom-fit oral appliance can improve your sleep, restore your alertness, and revitalize your health.

If you and your doctor decide that oral appliance therapy is the best treatment option for you, your doctor will write a prescription and refer you to Dr. Andrea Ho-Fatt Wang, who can make a custom-fit oral appliance. Blu Dental will provide ongoing treatment to make sure your appliance remains comfortable and effective.

Dr. Andrea Ho-Fatt Wang

Dr. Andrea Ho-Fatt Wang was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. She received her HBSc in Biochemistry from McMaster University and earned her DDS with Honors from the University of Western Ontario School of Medicine and Dentistry. In 2003, she and her husband, Dr. Jeffry Wang, a Family Medicine practitioner, established MHHC, a joint medical-dental clinic in Markham. In 2022, Jeff relocated his family practice, and Andrea rebranded and expanded her practice into Blu Dental, a dental clinic incorporating modern digital technology.

Since 2008, Dr. Ho-Fatt Wang has provided orthodontic services as a general dentist, with a focus on functional appliances. She collaborates with local sleep physicians in the Greater Toronto Area to provide oral appliance therapy for adults with sleep-disordered breathing, including snoring and sleep apnea. Dr. Ho-Fatt Wang is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine and has achieved Invisalign Diamond Plus provider status. She also participates in teaching and educational activities for other dentists and serves on the Align Advisory Board for general dentists.

Dr. Ho-Fatt Wang is particularly interested in managing sleep-disordered breathing in children using early interceptive orthodontics. She employs various appliances and techniques aimed at supporting airway development and is one of the first graduates of the Tufts University Pediatric Dental Sleep Medicine residency in Boston.
